As each July 20, residents of the municipality recall the day when King Charles II granted the independence to Fuente Alamo in the cities of Cartagena, Murcia and Lorca and gave him the coveted title of "Villa".
Today more than 300 years later, the commemoration of this historic event and continue to be held, this time with the tribute to a group of local residents, who in 1973 were able to implement one of the most important events of our country: the National Painting Competition Villa de Fuente Alamo.
In the hall of the City Council, have developed the tribute to these "fuentalameros Quixotes" with the presence of municipal authorities, family and local residents.
Alicia Gomez, municipal archivist, has begun holding narrating how some young wild and revolutionary for its time, associated with the Circle Medina, they gathered near the former headquarters of the Guardia Civil to give vent to their ideas and their cultural concerns.

"Pachi" as we affectionately known in Fuente Alamo, said he was very attached to this event as a child was amazed seeing the van get loaded with pictures and how partners were placing Circle Medina carefully to open the first National Painting Contest .
Such has been the importance of this event and how much they came to learn of the great painters who participated in it that Pachi also has ventured to propose that the competition "open their borders and become international."
A request which has also joined the current mayor of Fuente Alamo, Maria Antonia Conesa, as over forty years, there have been many renowned artists nationally and internationally who have submitted films for competition, as Parraga, Belzunce, Angel Haro or Hernánsaez who disappeared in the first edition of the event, came to get the first prize.

The National Painting Contest Villa de Fuente Alamo is already winning.
His name is Christopher Hernandez, 31 years old and of course the municipality of Cartagena.
His self simulating a mapping has captured the attention of the jurors so last Wednesday gave him first prize in this prestigious competition.
The winning work, "Portrait" is a stretch of 2 x 1.40 meters, made with acrylic and mixed media lithograph.
There are no colors, only a gray scale to represent his face downcast.
The young artist has taken a little over a month to complete the work and acknowledges that all has been the product of his imagination and creativity.
"I wanted to create a work in which human body parts, such as my face, they intermingle with a very bucolic landscape," says the author.
Another Murcia, Joaquina Sanchez, and "Shared Reading" has also been selected by the jury to reach the second prize in the National Painting Competition XL Villa de Fuente Alamo.
Next to it are also selected 21 paintings (of the 150 that were submitted in the competition) that, together with the winning entry will be exhibited in the hall Jose Hernandez of the House of Culture of the municipality as of August 25 .
The same day that the winners will receive a corresponding check for 5,000 and 3,000 euros respectively as absolute winners of this year.
