Prolonged exposure to high temperatures brings many harmful effects on health of people, mainly on the elderly and children.
To this end, the council of Social Policy Fuente Alamo City Council has implemented, as in previous years, a prevention plan to minimize or prevent such changes in the body among the 90 elderly or disabled who are covered by the Telecare service of the municipality.
The guideline provided in the Plan is to educate this group about the importance of prevention in health as the primary key to improve their quality of life.
Thus, the Central Telecare, after consulting the diary page Meteorological Agency (AEMET), staff will contact the home intervention for them, by telephone or in person, inform users on the recommendations to follow for prevent or reduce the impact of heat, and even advance information of the expected temperature for the particular day.
Fuente Alamo has 25 people using telecare more vulnerable to heat.
In these cases, security devices installed in their homes and increase the number of personal visits to ensure their safety.
From the Department of Social Policy emphasizes the following general recommendations:
- Drink water or fluids frequently. - Do not abuse alcohol or liquids with caffeine or large amounts of sugar because they lose more body fluid. - Staying longer in cool, shaded or air conditioned. - reduce physical exertion in the heat of the day (12.00 to 17.00) - Wear light colored, lightweight and comfortable to stop sweating. - Light meals to help replace salts lost through sweating (salads, fruits, vegetables, juices ...)
