ANSE: "A power line electrocution accumulates ten large birds of prey, including eagles six" (29/04/2011)

In a power line located in Fuente Alamo Found 6 eagles, owls 2 and 2 eagles in just two years.

Conservation organizations call for greater attention to existing lines outside the Natura 2000 network and the Administration continue working in partnership with utilities to solve these cases.

A distribution power lines located in Los Canovas (Fuente Alamo, Murcia) has led to the electrocution of eagles 6 (Hieraaetus fasciatus), 2 owls (Bubo bubo) and 2 golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) in just two years .

All affected species are protected by Law 7 / 95 for wildlife in the Region of Murcia, highlighting the case of Bonelli's eagle that is legally classified as "Endangered" and whose population is composed of about 22 couples entire region.

All electrocutions have been detected by a group of naturalists who gave notice in all cases to the Regional Administration.

This authentic "black section" add about 700 meters, so that ASEAN has requested immediate correction.

However, this tendency is out of the Natura 2000 network, which hinders the adoption of measures.

To date, only been corrected a post that killed two golden eagles electrocuted.

In this regard, and as noted by several scientific studies conducted in the Region of Murcia and in the neighboring province of Alicante ([1] [2]), a large number of electrocutions occur outside of the Special Protection Areas for birds or protected areas.

For this reason, the delimitation of protected areas for birds within the meaning of Royal Decree 1432/2008 outside protected areas is seen as a basic tool to reduce the number of electrocutions.

Inexplicably, this area is not included in the priority areas for birds recently established the Order of February 8, 2011 [3].

Precisely ADESGA ANSE and went to the Autonomous Community of Murcia to apply a greater focus on electrocutions outside the Special Protection Areas for Birds [4].

Also, both conservation organizations petitioned the Autonomous Community participation in the delimitation of such areas as the designation has not been subject to public participation process, nor has it been submitted to the Environmental Advisory Council.

In parallel, the Regional Administration has been receiving a LIFE project nearing completion that was entitled "Correction of dangerous power lines in SPAs in the region of Murcia.

2007-2010 "[5] which included the correction of various lines in five SPAs in the region of Murcia.

ANSE believes that the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity should continue working with power companies in the correction of power lines in order to ensure the conservation of birds beyond the funds received from the European Union through LIFE funds.
