In collaboration with the association SODIUM (Cartagena Diabetes Association and Shire), the Department of Sports, Sports Medicine Service of the City of Fuente Alamo and the Health Center this town have launched a pioneering project at regional level aimed at improving the quality of life for people with Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2.
This program seeks to establish whether exercise helps to control this type of diabetes and, if further reduce cardiovascular risk factors associated with this disease such as obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol.
To do this, and for 7 months, a group of professionals have designed an exercise program can extend the life expectancy of people who practice it, reducing, in turn, consumption of drugs.
The activity table consists of three hours of aerobic exercise per week, divided into three sessions of one hour each (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and adapted to the characteristics of each patient.
Currently, about 45 people benefit from this exercise program which runs until next June, in the multipurpose room of the Municipal Indoor Pool.
