| The Ministry of Culture recognizes, with the María Moliner awards, the best activities to encourage reading in Spain | The project 'Plug into the Library and load up on Culture' of the Municipal Library of Fuente Álamo has won a prize of 2,000 euros in the María Moliner reading animation campaign, organized by the Ministry of Culture.The María Moliner Reading Encouragement Campaign is a contest aimed at municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, through which the best projects or activities to stimulate reading carried out in their libraries are awarded.In this sense, the project 'Plug in the Library and load up on Culture' of the Fuente Álamo Library has four objectives: to create and maintain social awareness about the importance of reading, improve the services offered by the library, carry out and help carry out promotional activities, with special attention to groups with difficulties in accessing books and reading; and strengthen the social image of the Municipal Public Library of Fuente Álamo as a cultural center, a meeting place for people of different cultures and a multicultural space.This was explained by Ester Barbero, an employee of the Fuente Álamo Library, who added: "Our project focuses on concerted activities with educational centers since the scope and impact is greater than free activities."For her part, Antonia García, an employee of the Fuente Álamo Library, said that "in addition to the activities, the traditional library service, in terms of information and loans, is being updated in terms of acquisition, access to virtual platforms for books and movies.
".José Antonio Oliver, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Education and Culture, praised the work done by the library and commented that "this year, due to Covid-19, the library has been available by phone, via email and through of social networks offering loans through the eBiblio and eFilm platforms, as well as sharing recreational activities for children and adults on social networks ".The María Moliner Reading Animation Campaign awards 310 projects, of which 300 receive a cash prize for an individual amount of 2,000 euros and the ten that have obtained the highest score, each receive a prize of 10,000 euros.The objective is to promote reading among all social groups, especially among children and young people, who constitute the basis of future adult readers.
A contest that is carried out thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Sports with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.
