A monolith reminiscent of the old division of the municipalities of Cartagena, Lorca and Murcia (20/07/2010)

Today Tuesday, July 20, residents of Fuente Alamo have celebrated the "Dia de la Villa" with the discovery of a monolith that represents the first milestone of the division of the three major municipalities of Cartagena, Lorca and Murcia and in the XIV century, was located on the banks of the Rambla de Fuente Alamo.

Before this event, the mayors of the municipalities mentioned above have been received by the Municipal Corporation of the City of Fuente Alamo and then exposed witness the speech by the official chronicler of the Villa, Andres Nieto, about the historical importance of this landmark day .

MOJON HISTORY

Opened the monolith is located in the approximate location where the original cairn was erected in the fourteenth century, according to the testimony of many neighbors and elders and supported by various historical documents.

This first marker and the road continues southwest divided the town of Fuente Alamo in three jurisdictions, so that each of the three Councils (Cartagena, Lorca and Murcia), appointed their own mayor, acting simultaneously or rotating in that capacity annually.

After many years of litigation in court, Fuente Alamo gained independence from the three cities, granted by King

Charles II, July 20, 1700.

However, after two years would lose that privilege, until in 1820 Fuente Alamo de Murcia got to have its own Town Hall.

This historical curiosity probably unique in Spain, as is the issue that belonged to a three jurisdictions, and the importance for Fuente Alamo de Murcia for this singular fact, is what has prompted the City Council to re-establish the missing point reference, by placing a monolith in which the shields of the cities of Cartagena, Lorca, Murcia, Fuente Alamo, and a plate with a caption referring to historical fact.

This symbol will be the starting point of a journey through the history of our city and twinning between Fuente Alamo de Murcia and the three municipalities of Cartagena, Lorca and Murcia, and our territory for some time formed part of the terms of municipal councils.

Will be a monument and a historic landmark, hence the importance of the presence at the opening ceremony of the highest political representatives of these three municipalities.
