Fuente Ãlamo celebrates'Día de la Villa' paying homage to the 40th anniversary of the democratic councils (20/07/2019)

The Municipal Corporation of Fuente Álamo today celebrated the 'Day of the Village' commemorating the 40th anniversary of the first democratic town councils, with an act of recognition to the five mayors that the town had since 1979, when Spain was elected first Consistories of the recent history of the country.

The first mayor, Juana María Martínez, recognized the work of her five predecessors as "true agents of the transformation of the society of Fuente Álamo", a municipality that "currently has quality infrastructures and services, thanks to the work of many people in these four decades: mayors, councilors and collectives. "

Martinez especially highlighted the work of the first Corporation that emerged on April 3, 1979, headed by Ginés Jiménez Gómez and that was "pioneer".

"They are part of the democratic memory of the most recent history of Fuente Álamo," said the mayor, adding that "we owe a debt of gratitude to all of you."

Juana María Martínez, who did not forget in her speech those deceased municipal managers, also remembered the role of the woman in these 40 years, since not only was there a woman in the 1979 Corporation, but at this stage there were many councilors and two mayors.

Then we proceeded to the delivery of a commemorative trophy to the first edile of Fuente Álamo during the 40 years of democracy: Ginés Jiménez Gómez (1979 to 1995), Miguel Pérez Martínez (1995 to 2002), Antonio García García (2002 to 2003) ), who excused his attendance, María Antonia Conesa López (2003 to 2015), and Antonio Jesús García Conesa (2015 to 2019).

The awards were presented by the Mayor and the Councilor for Finance and Heritage, Contracting, Companies, Infrastructure, Education and Culture, José Antonio Oliver.

The Day of the Villa is a day full of symbolism for Fuentelamar, as it commemorates the constitution of Fuente Álamo as a municipality on July 20, 1700, after several years of litigation with the three Councils to which it belonged at that time: Murcia , Cartagena and Lorca.

The act, peppered with emotional moments, brought together many neighbors who packed the Plenary Hall, among them, the chief admiral of the Arsenal of Cartagena, Aniceto Rosique, Favorite Son of the Villa.
