Pedro Duque, in the UPCT: "there is nothing more fun than understanding how the world works" (14/01/2019)

The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Pedro Duque, has visited the facilities of the Fuente Álamo Technology Park, where the Center for Development and Technological Innovation (CEDIT) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena is located.

Duque has had the opportunity to learn about some UPCT projects related to augmented reality, as well as the development of the autonomous vehicle.

Along with the minister, about a hundred students of the 1st year of the Baccalaureate of the IES of Cartagena San Isidoro and the Mediterranean and schools of Fuente Álamo have also toured the facilities of the MTorres company, with a chair in the UPCT, and the CEDIT.

During the day, the young people received a talk about the activity of MTorres and the UPCT.

The minister has encouraged students to continue their studies because, he said, "there is nothing more fun than understanding how the world works".

Duque has also pointed out that "youthful creativity is great for science".

Pedro Duque has met during his visit to the technology-based companies and emerged from the UPCT that have their headquarters in the CEDIT, as well as the autonomous vehicle developed by the UPCT and its driving simulator of tractors, which has commented that "it is terrific ", while I felt how it is a turn in these agricultural vehicles.

CEDIT

Eight research groups of the Polytechnic have space and equipment in the CEDIT.

They develop projects in various fields, such as Electronic Engineering, Electromagnetism, Microwaves and radiocommunications, chemical engineering, transmissions and gears, soil and water, mechanical systems and underwater vehicles.

Technology-based companies arising from projects and patents carried out by researchers from the Polytechnic of Cartagena are based at CEDIT.

Among them are EMITE, which develops automated dosimetric evaluation systems for mobile terminals for large telecommunications multinationals;

Widhoc, a spin-off of intelligent irrigation systems;

BIO-Ipack, specialized in the design of nanoencapsulated formulations of essential oils for the food and veterinary sector.
